Islamabad Weather
The new and well planned city of Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan. Islamabad is located on the Pothohar Plateau towards the north of the country.
With plenty of trees and located at the foot of the Margalla Hills, Islamabad’s weather is always fresh. Its geographical directions are 33 61 N and 73 10 E. Islamabad is girded by mountains towards the north and north-east. Islamabad’s climate is typically subtropical climate. Its summers are hot, followed by the monsoons, which are followed by fairly cool autumn and winter months. The coolest months are November, December, January and February. Spring starts in March and lasts till the mid or end of April. In summer the hot and dry months are May and June, and the temperature exceeds 38°C (100.4 °F). The summers are followed by monsoons which can start in July with heavy rain fall accompanied with thunderstorms. During winters the temperature can touch 0 C. Heavy snowfall on the close by hills brings the temperature down quite rapidly in winter. The highest temperature recorded in June is 48 °C and the lowest in January -4 °C. Islamabad received 620 millimeters of rain on 23 July 2001, which was the heaviest recorded rainfall in Islamabad.
Due to its geographic location, Islamabad gets hot in summer and quite cold in winter. Islamabad’s temperature is generally a bit better than rest of the cities of Pakistan, due to its proximity to the mountains. The hot summer spells get a respite quite regularly by rain and thunderstorms, which provide a temporary relief. Sometimes even in March the temperature can drop quite sharply, especially if there are rains. The average monsoon rainfall is 790.8 mm annually. Winter rains are light and are caused due to western disturbance system bearing in from the Mediterranean Sea, and the rainfall is usually 2 inches.
The average high temperature of Islamabad in January is 17.1°C, February 19.1°C, March 23.9 °C, April 23.9 °C, May 35.3°C, June 38.7°C, July 35°C, August 33.4°C, September 33.5°C, October 30.9°C, November 25.4°C and December 19.7°C. The average minimum temperature in January is 2.6°C, February 5.1 C, March 9.9 C, April 15.0 C, May 19.7 C, June 23.7 C, July 24.3 C, August 23.5 C, September 20.6 C, October 13.9 C, November 17.8 C, December 3.4 C. Western disturbances which bring rain showers to Islamabad occur every month, but in winter these are more common. Fog occurs during the winter months and dissipates after sun rise. Violent dust storms occur quite regularly in the summers. Islamabad has received the odd snowfall during the winter months. The summer and winter monsoons can last for days and weeks at a stretch. The humidity during the monsoons in July and August are quite high averaging 70 to 80%. The humid weather during these months can drain out the body's energy quite fast.
Islamabad does witnesses four clear seasons of winter, spring, summer and autumn. Winter and early spring, are the best months to visit Islamabad.
